For this observation I taught a math lesson about composing and decomposing shapes. The how lesson went differently then I planned. This is because I didn't take enough time to plan. If I were to teach this lesson again I would take ample planning time to find activities and teaching strategies to use. What I would do the same is having manipulatives for the students to use during the lesson so they could make their own shapes. An instance that suprised me the most was when I asked student to split the square into two pieces many of the students drew a bunch of lines making as many pieces they could. I thought this was perplexing because I only askec for two pieces and the gave me more and I am not sure why. Whys my teaching methods were effective becausw it allowed students to work together and share their ideas with classmates. I know this because the tudents learn from their classmates and received help from their peers if they needed help. The activity was effective because it allowed students to use manipulatives to make new or regular shapes by uses other shapes. I know this workes because students discovered how to other shapes can make another shape. A student that did especially well during this lesson was DM. I account for this performance because he was able to explore and discover on his own with some guidance along the way. Based on this lesson I would reteach the lesson in way that was appealling for all students giving them the opportunity to discover shapes in a new way. To evaluate the students learning I would give each student a shape and the word have to find at least two different ways to compose that shape.
