Literary Analysis 2
“Put Me in The Zoo” by Robert Lopshire is a brilliant books with vivid and whimsical pictures that of this creature day and why he should be in the zoo. I believe that this book deserves the Caldecott Award because of how well the book is illustrated. The illustrations are vivid and colorful and illustrations go hand and hand with the text on the book.
The illustrations are simple but vivid and colorful from cover to cover. Even though the base of the just white with hints of color but as you get deeper inside the book there are more colors and they are bright and grab the attention of the readers. The media used to create these illustrations was colored pencils and marker. The way the pictures are hand drawn but so precise and defined. Because of these factors and the book deserves the Caldecott Award I believe is a great example of what a deserving book looks like.
The illustrations from the book and the text go hand and hand. So if the child is having a hard time reading the words they can get a visual of what is happening in the book do to the action filled animations. The images show the emotions of the characters and their mood reflects the setting around them. There is not an overload of words on the pages but there are enough words on the page to have a deeper explanation of what the pictures were saying. The setting of the book was clear and the illustrations express that through the whole book. The simplicity of the artwork is a great indication of why the book deserves this award. Parents and children can enjoy this book for a lifetime.
Reflection
This week I learned that many of the classic picture books that I read when I was in school are still in the classroom today. The pictures of the book are just as important as the words on the pages. The pictures tell the story on its own so that the children can make predictions. Pictures are a very important part of literacy as a whole. From the cover to the illustrations inside. Finding GOOD quality literature for students is important of teaching and securing a learning environment that is active and full of learning.
